God Building Leaders For The Next Generation

Image
Smiling atop Mt. Baker in WA I am so excited to write to you this late blog post! Sorry about that, but thank you for your patience, for reading, and for any prayers or gifts you have given me to help make this happen. May was such a wonderful month. As you should know from my previous blog posts, every May, FOCUS will send potential student leaders to Bellingham, Washington for a Discipleship training conference called SICM (Student Institute of Campus Ministry) . Well it finally happened, and I got to go with our group of students as a chaperone. We sent about 20 students from UTA and TCC. FOCUS as a whole (meaning all campuses we are at) sent around 100 students!! God is good. Some TCC and UTA students on the way to Pike Place Market Taking the SeaTrac with students We start off with some sight seeing days in Seattle, then in Bellingham before the classes start. It is a really great time for these students to make friends and memories with fellow Christians from their campus. I

Our 2021-2022 UTA Leader Team. What a great group of students.      Howdy! It is finally May and I have some exciting ministry news to update y'all on. I want to start first by honoring our student leaders, otherwise known as our Corefas or Core Facilitators. This group here is who makes our ministry possible year after year. These are full time students, sometimes working full or part time jobs, volunteering 20ish hours a week to serve God's Kingdom on their campus. We as a 9 person staff team could not possibly meet with and host cores for as many students as there are available at UTA, and these fine young men and women stepped up into that discipleship role.      You would be blessed to meet any of these disciples, as God is really maturing them while they mature others. This is probably my favorite part of campus ministry. We get to meet new students year after year, befriending them, teaching them, casting a vision for their life as a disciple, and then seeing so many o

March and My Plans For Next Year

Image
Let's start with a reflection from this past year and my plans for the coming ones! God has grown me a lot through my time in FOCUS, but especially in this particular year of the Apprenticeship. I have learned so much about the Bible and the Holy Spirit through my classes. I have learned to manage my schedule and plan wisely through my peers and mentors. God has used many people, students and supervisors alike to grow me into a disciple of Christ. I have learned to love more, see people with more Grace, and to step out in faith in whatever God calls me to do.  And what I think He is calling me to do is stay on staff with FOCUS for a couple of years. Right now, for at least three. God has been doing so many powerful things around me and adjacent to me while in this role. I want to remain faithful to our students at University of Texas at Arlington and to Tarrant County College, especially in these early years. Seeing that we just planted it, I think the friendships and connections

February

February went by so fast, but I feel like I have not gotten to share with you all in a long time! A graphic I made for our social media. Picture of our corefas and staff. Ministry at TCC is going well! I am currently studying the Bible with 8 guys from TCC. Some of those are in a one on one setting, and I am actually meeting up every Wednesday with three of them at once. That group can be a little less consistent. So be praying that we can continue meeting.  TCC Students getting boba together We are getting to send a handful of students from TCC to SICM (The Student Institute of Campus Ministry) in May. This is a week long course taught in Bellingham, Washington by our good friends from Western, Washington University. This is a pretty intensive weeklong class that we send students wanting to lead to each year. They will learn a lot about how to disciple others, host small groups, and evangelize on a college campus.  It is amazing enough that God has prepared a ministry like that up in

January

Image
Howdy and welcome back to the blog! God has been doing all sorts of things in January, so I am excited to share everything with you. Worship at Winter Camp 2022 First thing I want to share with you is about Winter Camp. God really looked out for our community by keeping Sky Ranch staffed and functional so we could still have camp. Beyond just getting us to camp safely and soundly, We had little to no outbreaks of flu or covid. BEYOND THAT, God moved in the lives of so many students that weekend. I had a handful of students I got to bring to camp: Kade, Eric, and Hart.   Me, Kade, and Eric in the big chair at Camp Hart and I in the big chair Each of them had a great experience meeting more people in our community, worshipping as a body, and hearing Rikk Watt’s teachings throughout the week. Kade and I had so many encouraging conversations about God. He is truly seeking God’s will for his life and loved getting to meet other Christians seeking like he is. Kade and I will be studying the

Emily and I getting dinner with my core guy, Alex, with his family during the break. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year y'all! What a year 2021 was. I wanted to start this blog with saying thank you to you all. These first couple months getting to do ministry has been very life changing. Emily and I have gotten to reflect on all the change in our lives, with getting married, moving, and both of us getting to work with FOCUS together. I have grown and matured in my faith in ways that will positively affect the health of our marriage the rest of our lives. These past couple months have been priceless, and I have been very blessed to serve in them. So thank you! Things to update you on at TCC: We finished out the school semester strong, I will be starting some new Focus on Jesus studies with 4 of the guys there, and we had an end of the year Christmas party.   Celebrating our fun Christmas party L to R (Austin, Olivia, Eldrian, Kade, Jefferey, Me, Emily, Taylor, Chris, Stephen, and Ro

This is a graphic I made for our FOCUS Instagram page. I co-run our social media with my friend, Bailey. It has been a fun way to serve and use my art education. The group pictured above is our Wednesday night Men's Core. Such a fun group. Our lovely TCC Core. From left to right: Angel, Eldrian, Chris, Stephen, Kade, Olivia, Rowan, and Ashley. Emily, Taylor, and I are the goofs in the front. What an encouraging group. Howdy friends! Another month of ministry has passed and I have more updates for you on what God is doing at UTA and TCC.        At Tarrant County College (TCC), I had shared with you about our group of three consistent students. Well they have been so invitational, and our outreach effort has produced such good fruit, we now have a group of about 10-12 students. Our times in core have been so sweet, as each student is engaged and ready to share. We talked about the Holy Spirit last week. Some had more knowledge on the person of the Spirit, but everyone was joining in
