Good News From Retreat

Image
Snapshot from a student named Austin of the snow day at camp HOWDY and HELLO! January has come and gone, and I wanted to spend most of my blog sharing with y'all some powerful stories from our retreat. Every day we got to spend together was a catalyst for fellowship and community. Not everyone in our core could go, but Mauricio, Garrett, Sully, and I were there. It was definitely a great sight to see Sully getting more plugged in, and I have already seen him being more comfortable in core after us sharing this trip together. It was Garrett and Sully's first time at this retreat, so it was their first time getting to see the entire ministry of FOCUS from across DFW get together. I think it put some perspective on what God has been bringing them to and encouraged them to see His hand at a larger scale than UTA. The Core guys on last day at retreat Some of the UTA fellas wanted a snow day pic. Lots of great guys here. Many will be leaders in the coming years. Rhett, Mauricio, an...

New Year with New Faces

HOWDY AND HELLO!   The biggest blessing of 2023 is her coming in 2024! I had to start with the big news first! Emily and I are having a sweet baby girl come Summer 2024. We had been praying and trying last year, and God has blessed our earnest prayers. I am only as eager as I am, because all the fears of parenthood and raising a child are contrasted with the overwhelming care God has shown me through my community at FOCUS and Church, as well as through your support of my ministry.  I plan to work with FOCUS for the continuing future, God willing. While it is not the highest paying job, it is certainly one I have felt called to. I am excited for the flexibility of my schedule to be able to take care of my daughter when needed, and meet students when needed. I want my girl to see her parents love and live for others at a young age. Please be praying over the health of our girl and over God's providence for our growing family. Much of my excitement has been getting to see those w...

Time Flies When You're Making Memories

Core of 87      Thanksgiving has just passed and I find myself once again near the end of the semester just in awe of God and what He does. First off, thank you to all of my ministry partners. I don't get to be here on campus, speaking the Word to young men without your faithfulness and generosity.       When I think about how your investment is affecting the Kingdom, I think about Mauricio who went from on the fence to leading others to Christ this year. I think about Andrew, who was hotheaded and quick tempered, coming to our Bible study more humble each week, ready to learn. I think about Garrett, who previously let his girlfriend do all the talking for him, being one of the most proficient friends I see amongst freshmen. I get to meet with real people, and see real change in their lives, that lead to real change in other's lives. It has nothing to do with me being good. It has everything to do with God being good, me being faithful, and you being...

We are Children of a Good Father

Worship at Fall Camp 23 Howdy and Hello!!!       Thank you all for your prayers, support, and reading. I am just so blessed to get to work in this mission field of college students, and it really is through His grace and your faithfulness. God is moving at UTA, and I can say I have seen the fruits of our labor.      The big update for this month is that we went to Fall Camp. It is a weekend retreat that we take our students on. We will do teaching and worship sessions, play games, spend free time, and share meals with each other for 24 hours. To be honest, not much of what we do at Fall Camp is new to our formula of ministry week to week. But there is something about driving together to a camp site, away from home, with all of these fresh new faces that results in our students growing closer to one another and to Christ. My friend, Austin, put it well "This is the time of year that our students go from attending a random ministry they found, to being A...

The Power of His Holy Word

Image
Howdy and Hello, Friends!       October is upon us, and I get to share with you an update from September. A theme that God has made so prevalent this month is the power of His Holy Word. I'm talking Scripture, The Bible, Old and New Testament. It is obviously something any Christian should care about and invest time in, but I have found our ministry and students really heating up the value of having the Word written on our hearts.  Our first PRoS. 35 students and pastors reading Galatians on a Thursday night till 10pm. It was a blast      One way we have been heating this value up is through the most simple means: reading together! I am hosting a weekly Public Reading of Scripture (PRoS) every Thursday from 12pm-2pm on campus. Students come, they read along and listen, and afterwards we discuss what stood out.       So many young Christians nowadays know very little of the Bible and the numbers always seem to be decreasing, esp...
